Dear Family,
“ See what love the Father has bestowed on us that we may be called the children of God. Yet so we are.” – 1John 3:1 And so I greet you as a fellow child of God!
As Father’s Day approaches, this is a great time to remind ourselves as St. John would tell us that we are God’s children now. There are many things that a father does but chief among them are two qualities. A father provides and he protects.
God – Pater noster, does that for each one of us and throughout history he has provided earthly fathers to provide for and to protect his children. He gave us Abraham, Moses, David and he crowned it all by giving St. Joseph as provider for and protector of Jesus and the Blessed Mother. But he also gave us our own pater familias – father of the family, whom we remember and for whom we give thanks on Father’s Day. They have been our providers and protectors. They have given us life and love and at this time above all we show them respect and love. May they be strengthened in their role as Christian fathers and may their faith and love so shine forth in the world that their sons and daughters may come to know God’s love for them and that we will all bask in the knowledge that we are children of God now!
For those who have died we pray that God will bring them with St. Joseph into the joy of his kingdom.
Yours in Jesus and Mary,
Very Reverend Anthony Aarons, Missionary of Mercy
